This is a fine sake bottle, a representative example of Matsushiro ware, a type of pottery from Shinshu (present-day Nagano Prefecture). Dating from the mid to late Edo period, it is believed to be a work of the Daikanchomachi kiln, a prominent kiln of Matsushiro ware. Although it is approximately two hundred years old, it has no damage, the glaze has a beautiful color, and the shape is dignified and elegant. This piece is part of the collection of a leading collector of Matsushiro ware in Nagano Prefecture, and it is rare to find a piece of this quality. It is a very valuable work.
