The name comes from "the first boots being manufactured in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, the residence of the Native American Chippewa tribe." The "Modern Suburban" model was released in 1955 as "boots for a modern and active lifestyle." It was the first outdoor casual style model in the ORIGINAL CHIPPEWA line at the time. Notably, the double-name outsole, a collaboration with Vibram, has been reproduced. This is the only MADE in U.S.A. collaboration sole in the world.
