In the early 1960s, as washing machines became widespread in America, there was a demand for clothing that wouldn't shrink or wrinkle after washing. "STA-PREST" was created by applying a sharp center crease to a non-denim material, and it is still known as a representative non-denim item in Levi's®. There's an anecdote that some salesmen at the time would load a washing machine into their car and sell the pants by demonstrating that the center crease wouldn't come out even after repeated washing. The biggest feature of "STA-PREST" is that the center crease stays in place without ironing, it's wrinkle-resistant, and it doesn't show wear easily. Due to its practicality, it became a big hit in America, and by the end of the 1960s, it had become part of the Ivy look, a popular trend at the time, and was commonly worn by teenagers across the United States.
