A Pharaoh jacket is also known as a "car coat" or "long stadium jacket." In the 50s and 60s in America, the "car club" was a gathering of young delinquents who customized old cars and raced them! These delinquents all wore "car coats"! The car coat got its name because old cars didn't have air conditioning, so it was worn as a cold-weather garment inside the car. The reason it became known as a "Pharaoh jacket/coat" is because in the youth film "American Graffiti," set in the 60s, the delinquent gang "Pharaohs" wore car coats with the "PHARAOHS" patch on the back, hence the name "Pharaoh coat."
