We are pleased to introduce one of three entrusted works by Masanori Taira, a renowned master of Okinawan sanshin from the Showa era, from Oroku, Naha City. This is a genuine Makabe-style sanshin by the master Taira. The refined curves of the chira (sound hole) and dove-breast design are impressive. This valuable piece uses vintage striped ebony and features urushi lacquer finishing by the late Kojoya, with the stamps "Taira" and "Taira Sunchi" on the core. While there is some evidence of use, it has few scratches for its age, is not warped, and functions normally, with no issues with the karakui (tuning pegs). The claw-back carving is done with a round chisel. The striped ebony used has a very fine density, a rare material not seen in recent sanshin. The neck is of medium thickness. The hon-kawa (genuine leather) skin is seven-tenths stretched, allowing for a very soft and pleasant tone. This is a work by Masanori Taira from the late Showa era. If you don't have one yet, please take this opportunity to acquire it. The instrument is sold as the body only. https://ameblo.jp/34doumakiya/
