I am currently sorting through inherited items. This is a very atmospheric piece from my grandfather's collection, a collector of antiques. It's a very impressive piece of old Shino ware pottery with flowing glaze. It's larger than a matcha tea bowl, so I believe it's a water container for tea ceremony utensils. It's an antique, a vintage piece of pottery, a tea utensil, and a flower arrangement utensil. It appears to be quite old, probably from the Edo period. It was carefully stored in a shelf in the tea room in the storehouse, so it's likely a very good piece. It's a dark brown color, but I think it's made of cream-colored clay. The milky glaze has flowed and solidified, and it's a very impressive and magnificent piece. Furthermore, the glaze has fine crack patterns, giving it a deep feel. Also, there are two rings on the lower part of the side, which may be a family crest or a symbol of reincarnation, a design that is considered auspicious. The impressive glaze and the mysterious patterns, and the beautiful ripple-like streaks on the sides create a wonderful gradation of shadows, making it a truly beautiful antique. My grandfather was a hospital director in his lifetime and owned many works of art, including those by Living National Treasures, and he boasted about them, so I think they are all very good items. My grandchildren and my mother are not very interested in antiques, and we don't know which works are by whom or what kind of pottery they are. I don't know if the items I'm selling are Imari ware, Kutani ware, Shigaraki ware, or Seto ware. Even if they are wonderful works of art or very expensive items by Living National Treasures, I don't know their value at all.
