This is a work by Mika Nishino, a Kutani ware artist. Vivid pink, black, and gold glazes are used to hand-paint patterns such as fans and flowers. It features a beautiful design that can be enjoyed as an ornamental piece. I fell in love with it and purchased it during a trip to Kanazawa. Since it was for display, it is unused. I purchased it for just under 40,000 yen. It is currently mostly sold out and difficult to obtain. This is a Kutani ware cup & saucer by Mika Nishino, who draws vibrant original patterns based on the theme of "Tokoyo (Eternal Night)". Everything is hand-painted freehand. "Tokoyo" is an ideal world beyond the sea, the land of the dead, and is considered a permanent, unchanging world of the gods, in contrast to the present world (utsushiyo). It comes in a wooden box. A gorgeous cup & saucer depicting colorful, large flowers blooming under a night sky shimmering with gold and silver moons and stars. The "deco-mori" (a traditional Kutani ware technique of drawing dots and lines three-dimensionally using raised paint) applied like jewelry, using genuine gold and platinum, also adds splendor to the work.
