This is a rare black-glazed earthenware pot by graphic designer Masao Daido. Purchased about 20 years ago at a special exhibition held in Ebisu by the Iga-yaki kiln "Nagatani-en." The texture is like black iron, combined with the soft expression of Iga clay. This earthenware pot beautifully blends the warmth of handcraftsmanship with modern design. The straight-lined design of the lid's knob and handles reflects Daido's characteristic refined product aesthetic. Used only once, with no chips or cracks. It is in very good condition overall, with a deep, lustrous black glaze on the outside. The inside has a beautiful metallic black appearance. This is a work of art, almost a one-of-a-kind piece, that elevates the space even when placed on the dining table. It is a tool for cooking, yet it has a solemn presence that makes you want to place it directly in the center of the table. It felt too precious to use as a pot, so I treated it as an object and only used it once, after which I stored it carefully. The parallel, sharp-edged handles on the sides, the rough, iron-like ceramic surface, and the geometric design of the lid's knob, which is carved out like a "bridge," are all elements that make this a vessel created from the perspective of a graphic designer. For practical use, of course, but also for those who love tableware or for interior decoration. Iga clay is said to be "breathing clay," a coarse clay with high far-infrared effects, making it ideal for earthenware pots that slowly transfer heat to the core of the food and bring out its flavor. Old Iga clay is no longer available. The deep luster when it catches the light and the iron-like texture are, I believe, more appealing than current ones. Earthenware pots are sensitive to sudden temperature changes, so when heating, start with low heat instead of high heat. Also, avoid putting the earthenware pot on the heat while the bottom is wet.
