In a small used bookstore on a hill overlooking the scenic hills of Italy. Libero, the shop owner, one day speaks to Esien, an immigrant boy who was looking at books outside the store. Libero, who took a liking to the curious Esien, lends him books one after another, and Esien listens intently to Libero's words about the wonders of reading. As they discuss their impressions of the books, the two build a friendship that transcends age and nationality.
