The base is a smooth fabric, with a slightly thicker fabric on the front, giving it a luxurious feel while still being casual. I've worn it several times, but there's no sign of the fabric stretching or losing its shape, and I think it shows little wear. I've also had it dry cleaned! There are almost no stains on the collar.
