Yanahime Tenjin Shrine, Iwata City, Shizuoka Prefecture, September 11, 14, 15, 2013, Nationally Designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property The area around Mitsuke Shukuba Dori (old Tokaido Road) in the center of Iwata City prospered as Mitsuke-juku, a post town on the Tokaido Road during the Edo period. The Mitsuke Tenjin Hadaka Matsuri (Naked Festival) is the autumn grand festival of Yanahime Jinja (Mitsuke Tenjin), which lasts for eight days. The main highlights are the Go-taisai, held on the weekend immediately preceding the 10th day of the 8th lunar month each year, and the Hama-gori, held three days before that. The Zenkoku Renwa Group participates every year. This digital photo album records the entire beautiful and heroic naked festival, a nationally designated important intangible folk cultural property. This two-year photo collection, which marks our fifth consecutive year covering the Mitsuke Tenjin Hadaka Matsuri, contains many famous scenes and is a major work with 830 images and a running time of 90 minutes. It was too large to fit on a CD, so we have released it on DVD. This is the same as the permanent preservation edition sent to the preservation society and those who have helped us. It includes 12.3-megapixel original images, so you can print them out up to A2 size for personal enjoyment. We will send it to you by regular mail as soon as it is ready.
