This is a kabazaiku (cherry bark craft) tea caddy from Kakunodate, Akita. The octagonal shape is an auspicious shape symbolizing the eight directions, also known as "Hakke" (eight trigrams). This tea caddy prevents moisture, so tea leaves can be stored in good condition for a long time. I personally use a smaller one to store sencha leaves. It is somewhat water-resistant, but the bark may open if left wet, so please handle it with dry hands as much as possible. It is durable and will last a long time. The octagonal shape is easier to hold than a round one. Also, this one is a little thick and looks very nice even when displayed. No box included. Height: 12 cm Width: 8 cm
