Entered Toyo University in 1919 from Waseda Junior High School, and became a disciple of Ekai Kawaguchi. Later entered Rinzai University (currently Hanazono University). After graduation, he entered Myoshin-ji Temple Sodo (monastic training hall), but soon transferred to Tenryu Sodo. He practiced Zen under Seisetsu Seki and inherited his teachings. In 1949, he became the chief priest of Reinin, a sub-temple of Myoshin-ji Temple, and the president of Hanazono University. In 1953, he became the teacher at Shofuku Sodo in Hyogo Prefecture. In 1978, he became the 24th Kancho (Chief Abbot) of the Myoshin-ji Temple sect.
