The lamination is for scratch and stain protection, as well as to increase durability. (The paper is from an art book, so it's thicker and more durable.) Illustrations are on both sides. The front features a monochrome version of Lala, and the back features a monochrome version of Mikan. These are beautiful illustrations by the popular manga artist Kentaro Yabuki, so why not add them to your collection?
