However, with the increasing popularity of noodles, including soba, during the Edo period, soba choko became established as containers for dipping sauces. Soba choko are versatile and can be used for desserts, side dishes, steamed dishes, potato salad, and even coffee... They are "all-purpose" bowls. ※ Mashiko ware has been popular as everyday tableware since the kilns were established in the late Edo period. These bowls are characterized by the plump, warm texture that is a hallmark of Mashiko ware.
