They've been polished. Both have few scratches and the plating is beautiful. A sponge is included. Upon close inspection, a small scratch can be seen near the center of the top surface of one of them. I don't think it's very noticeable, but it would be best to put that one on the back side where it would be hidden. Please check the photos. Please understand that these are used items, so there may be some dirt on the back.
