He was awarded the Minami Nihon Culture Award in 1997 for his lifelong dedication to the promotion of Oshima Tsumugi. With the life philosophy of "I dedicate my life to Tsumugi," Tokiemon, who walked with Oshima Tsumugi, developed new designs, kasuri, and dyeing techniques based on traditional techniques.
