This is a masterpiece by Clifford Brown, a trumpet genius who died young. The quintet he formed at the time with Max Roach (ds) featured Harold Land (ts), Richie Powell (p), and George Morrow (b). The atmosphere changes instantly when Brown begins his improvisation following the theme in Cherokee, after a somewhat exaggerated drum intro. You'll be overwhelmed by his outstanding technique, tone, and overflowing imagination, and you'll feel a fresh感動 every time you listen. All the performances are excellent, but George's Dilemma, with its light Latin beat, is My Favorite. Brown's short life of only 25 years ended in a car accident a year after this recording, but his wonderful performances have been etched in the hearts of many people and will never be forgotten. US Emarcy MG-36037 mono DG The original was released in 1955, but this record is a reissue from around 1959. The pasted-on coating jacket has scratches, some discoloration, tape marks, yellowing, damage, and a tear at the top that has been repaired from the inside. The record has fine scratches and surface noise, and there are occasional small clicks on A-3 and 4. It's not too bad because it's mono, but please refrain from purchasing if you are concerned about any noise. Comes with the original company sleeve.
