This is the debut album on Sony Classical by the chamber choir "World Choir for Peace". This choir was formed in 2018 with the support of UNESCO in Germany. Their first concert, held in Berlin to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, was a great success. Since then, alongside the "World Orchestra for Peace," founded by Solti and now conducted by Gergiev, they have performed at various international events organized by UNESCO, the UN, and others, playing an important role as musical ambassadors for peace. The core members consist of 24 professional singers from 15 countries around the world, and they are conducted by Nicol Matt, famous for his work as a choral conductor for ensembles such as the European Chamber Choir. This album, featuring guest harpist Lavinia Meijer and others, is a 2-disc set compiling easy-to-listen choral works by contemporary composers. The works are by Karl Jenkins, John Rutter, Grammy-nominated composer and pianist Hauschka, Elis Ludwig Leon, leader of San Fermín, Estonian pop violinist Maarja Nuut, and German soundtrack composer David Reichert, among others. All of these works showcase the beauty of the human voice, the ultimate instrument, to its fullest extent. Although they are contemporary pieces, they have been crafted into a very accessible sound. The recording process was also innovative. The members were arranged in a circle to sing, and each singer and instrument was recorded with at least one individual microphone, making this the first 360° Reality Audio recording in the history of choral music.
