After graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design in the United States with a degree in Textile Design, she worked as a textile designer, designing and developing fabrics for major automobile companies. She then established tona design office in 2011. The roots of Kawatou's designs lie in her life and experiences in diverse countries and cultures, evoking a fusion of Japanese and Western styles. She is currently active internationally, including with Le Klint and Georg Jensen Damask, based in Tokyo. This clock expresses the world of Moomin peeking out from a flower wreath.
