In 1969 (Showa 44), he apprenticed under his father, Yoshiyoshi Oikawa, an outstanding craftsman of Iwate Prefecture, and succeeded the family business of Nanbu iron kettle manufacturing, dedicating himself solely to iron kettle production. As the chairman of the Iron Kettle Subcommittee, he excels in the lightweighting of Nanbu iron kettles, rust prevention treatment methods, and coloring techniques.
