This item was originally displayed at the Shiroi Ainu Kotan. It was collected by the first director of the Shiraoi Municipal Folk Museum (Poro-Kotan, the predecessor of Upopoy, and even earlier than the former Ainu Museum), Takeichi Moritake Ekashi, and others, and was once stored in the folk museum. In 1984, when the museum became the former Ainu Museum, the materials were reviewed, and it was purchased in bulk by an Ekashi who lived in Shiraoi. This is an Ainu earring called a "Ninkari." It was actually worn by the old Fuchi (elderly women). The material appears to be nickel silver, although I initially thought it might be brass.
