A rare Edo period Nonoyaki Buddhist flower vase. "Nono" is read as "Yoki no". There is also a possibility it is Satsuma Naeshirakawa ware, so please purchase with your understanding. The dimensions match the size often seen in this type of Buddhist flower vase from Nono, so I have identified it as such. It appears to have been fired in a reduction atmosphere, resulting in a gray finish. Originally, it had ears, but they are missing, and something like lacquer has been applied. Made using the plate-building and wheel-throwing techniques, it has been fired intensely. It likely allows water to seep through, but it could also be used as a tokkuri (sake bottle).
