The gold edging gives it an air of elegance, and it appears to be hand-painted Kyo-yuzen (Kyoto-style dyed silk), but this is uncertain as the material was provided as scraps. A graceful flowing water pattern is woven into the pale reddish-brown background. Some of the chrysanthemum flower centers are also embroidered. The harmony between the dove-colored (grayish-light purple) background color and the pattern is pleasing. This is made without interfacing for suppleness and softness, for fukusa handling.
