A noren (traditional Japanese fabric divider) featuring the characters for "Shobu-yu" (菖蒲湯 - iris bath) and a floral design. The noren displays the characters for "Shobu-yu" and an illustration of purple flowers. It is a noren to be hung at the entrance of a public bathhouse. It was acquired from a bathhouse that had closed down. Perhaps it was used on the day of the iris bath? There is one stain of about 1 cm, but it is in very good condition and the cotton fabric is sturdy. 140 cm (length) x 210 cm (width - made of three panels each 70 cm wide) Thank you for looking.
