Organizing the workshop of my woodworker father Approximately 21cm long, 31cm wide Thickness: approximately 2.2mm Yakusugi cedar endures for over a thousand years in harsh natural conditions, making tremendous efforts. It grows in soil with very few nutrients, resulting in extremely narrow annual rings. To withstand long-term decay, it stores oil on its own. This oil creates the darker parts of the work. I wish to emulate the longevity of Yakusugi. Yakusugi is a cedar that grows on Yakushima Island, a granite island with few nutrients. Its growth is slow, and the wood grain is tight. It has a high resin content and is resistant to decay due to the high rainfall and humidity. Therefore, it is said to have a long lifespan. It grows naturally in mountainous areas above 500m in altitude, and trees over 1000 years old are called Yakusugi. Currently, new logging is prohibited. It is a rare and auspicious wood, also said to ward off bad luck ("yaku ga sugiru"). Coated with impregnating urethane coating (Kigatamé Ace), so it's safe even if you sweat on it. It meets food sanitation standards. Please care for it with a soft cloth made of silk or cotton.
