Sony's radio cassette recorder, the CF-1450. It has been maintained, repaired, and its operation has been confirmed. The CF series was released in 1972. The 1450 added a shortwave band, tape counter, sleep function, and light to the 1400. Personally, I like the 1400-1450 best among Sony's monaural models because of their excellent sound quality. The sound seems to emanate from the core of the unit, a testament to the Alnico magnet speaker. Indeed, the maintainability of this era's models is poor, with the mysterious adhesive used on germanium transistors and the metal puzzle-like disassembly common to Sony devices. However, it's worth overcoming these challenges, and I think it's perhaps the best for radio listening. Of course, it produces a wonderful sound with properly recorded tapes. While I cannot guarantee perfect playback of all tapes, I highly recommend experiencing the Alnico sound of the CF-1400-1450, which you can't experience anymore.
