In an era when Japanese-made wristwatches were changing from mechanical to quartz, it was released as CITIZEN's first quartz wristwatch. It is a top-of-the-line model made to compete with SEIKO's GRAND QUARTZ and KING QUARTZ. The all-stainless steel case has a substantial and appropriate weight, giving it a luxurious feel. The Crystron Quartz was more expensive than mechanical watches at the time. Furthermore, this model is equipped with a stepping motor, and the red LED signal at the 12 o'clock position lights up for a moment every time the second hand passes the 12 o'clock position.
