The original of this work, the Parrot Transom, created around 1905, is housed and exhibited at the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art near Orlando, Florida. It is presumed to have originally been in the William Watts Sherman house in Newport, Rhode Island. Sherman was a banker and investor, and the mansion, designed and decorated by famous and up-and-coming architects of the time, is designated as a U.S. National Historic Landmark. A pair of parrots perched on a plant with red berries and thick, large leaves against a blue sky. The colors are vivid and lively, and the design is full of a tropical atmosphere. The flat glass is colored with transparent enamel painting and has an uneven surface. Because it has been fired, the colors will not fade over time. It is a handmade product.
