"Hatsu-wan" (First Bowl) refers to the lacquer harvested from June to July, called "Hatsu-hen Urushi" (First-edge Lacquer), and the bowl is made using that lacquer. The lacquer is applied by the lacquer craftsman who harvested it himself. It has a handmade feel that is not found in mass-produced items. It's a bit large, so it's recommended for soups with lots of ingredients or donburi dishes. This is one of the lacquerwares that allows you to feel the climate of Iwate. Diameter: 12.9cm Height: 7.6cm Haruma Miura wrote in a column about Joboji lacquerware, "The lacquer tree gives lacquer in exchange for its own life, and that lacquer becomes a new life as lacquerware, reaching people's hands and being passed down. I, too, would like to express myself using my body and heart, though it might be an exaggeration to say I'm sacrificing myself." Furthermore, he wrote, "The lacquer tree is shunned and cut down because it can cause a rash just by being near it. However, it becomes an adhesive and has antibacterial properties, and is used not only for practical purposes but also for art and historical cultural heritage.
