I sharpened it myself only once after purchase. I used it a couple of times at campsites for cutting rope and making feather sticks, but I haven't done any batoning. There are sharpening scratches and thin scratches, but no chipping on the blade. It's made of stainless steel, but I don't know the specific steel type. Thank you.
