Product Description Height: Approximately 3.5 cm, Diameter: Approximately 7 cm About Horaku-yaki Horaku-yaki was created by the fourth Toyosuke, who applied lacquer finishing to tea utensils and other items. They appear to be lacquer crafts at first glance, but when you open the lid, you see glaze and painting, and you realize they are pottery. He devised this, and named it "Kigu-sha." This very innovative technique and meticulous craftsmanship were adopted as official products of the Owari Domain. Horaku-yaki can truly be called a treasure of Aichi Prefecture. As you can see, this is an Edo period Horaku-yaki "Toyosuke" marked sake cup/guinomi. Horaku-yaki is a soft pottery that was fired in the Kakurenri area south of Banshoji Temple in Osu, Naka-ku, Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture (formerly Maetsu). It was produced for over 130 years, from the late Edo period to the Taisho era, but production has now ceased. Only 130 years of production, so very few pieces remain, making it a true treasure of Aichi Prefecture, and highly valuable for collectors. There is a chip on the rim, but overall in good condition.
