A cabinet set of two cups & saucers and plates manufactured by the early Maruki (Meiji 39 - Taisho 10 period). These are unique and very beautiful items.
The watercolor-style floral designs, hand-painted by artisans, are from the 19th century. The unique cup shapes and the delicate curves of the rims and saucers are transitional works that connect to Art Nouveau. Also, although not immediately apparent, the pieces feature a raised relief technique. The cup has raised detailing on the rose stems, and the plates have a three-dimensional effect on the rims due to the exquisite raised design.
One cup has a 2mm chip on the bottom (photo 7), but please understand this as part of the beauty of aging over 100 years.
Although the Maruki mark is only on one plate due to it being a set, the others are the same.
Other than that, the condition is good, and it is a very rare item to obtain as a set.
