N O.171 ⭕️ Rare Iwate Prefecture Shiu Seki Suzuri (Inkstone) (2nd Generation Tetsusaburo Sato) [1] Length: 215mm [2] Width: 110mm [3] Thickness: 19mm Weight: 880g [4] Maker: 2nd Generation Tetsusaburo Sato [5] Engraving Signature: Higashiyama Shiu Meiseki (Famous Stone) [6] Box: Separate lacquered wooden box (dark brown lacquer) (with yellow cloth) (278mm x 159mm x 36mm) [7] Condition: No noticeable scratches or stains, but fine scratches that suggest age are visible. [8] Shape: Natural stone inkstone ◉ The raw stone is Paleozoic green porphyry tuff, which is rarely produced around Ofunato and Ichinoseki in Iwate Prefecture. It is usually reddish-brown with cloud-like patterns and green circular patterns. In particular, the stone materials from Higashi-Iwai County have been called Shohoji stone since ancient times, and have a history of production since the time of the Fujiwara clan. ○ This work is presumed to be from the pre-war period, given the craftsman's origins, so it has aged considerably and gives a sense of the flow of time, typical of the old days. Looking closely, the hills and sea show the pale navy and reddish-green colors characteristic of Shiu stone mixed within the reddish-brown color. There is a small, shallow indentation in the middle of the lower part of the hill (Images 2, 3, 5). On the underside of the inkstone, it says "Higashiyama Shiu Meiseki," the place of origin, and the dot above the mouth of the stone character is a characteristic of the Tetsusaburo craftsman. ⭕️ (See Images 18, 19, 20. Reference photos are not included.) As it is a work by the grandfather of the current craftsman, Tetsuji Sato, please consider its age. ◉ Feel free to contact us. ◉ Generations of Inkstone Makers (Gihei Yamamoto) First Generation: Kojiro Yamamoto 2nd Generation: ○ Tetsusaburo Sato, born in 1883 3rd Generation: Yukio Sato 4th Generation: Tetsuji Sato, former teacher, currently active at age 90 ◉ Reference Oga Suzuri, Toryusai, Moriyuki Endo, Amehata Suzuri, Mine Suzuri, Amanohata Suzuri, Seiken Amemiya, Yahei, Ryukei Suzuri, Ryukei Nabekura, Shuseki, Takada Suzuri, Moroka Ishi Suzuri, Wakada Suzuri, Horaiji Suzuri, Hozan, Takashima Kohan Suzuri, Kokuji Suzuri, Tosa Suzuri, Nakamura Suzuri, Nachiguro Suzuri, Komine, Gyokuishi, Kokei Suzuri, Yodo, Akama Suzuri, Takuji, Shinobu, Yoichi, Shoryuzan, Gyokuchido, Gyokuchiken, Gyokumine, Yuiseki, Teisai, Yakushima Suzuri ※ Please check the images carefully. ※ Please read my profile. ※ Please take a look at the works I have posted so far.
