This is a shima-dai chawan (tea bowl) used by my aunt, who was born in the Taisho era and was a Urasenke tea ceremony instructor, for teaching tea ceremony and for tea gatherings at her home. The gold on the inside is not gold leaf, but a gold mud (kindei) fired-on type. It is a Raku-style copy of a Kyoto ware. There is considerable wear from the chasen (tea whisk) on the inside. The silver paint has discolored. There is no wooden box.
