[Rare] Hakata Dōrin (Earthen Bell) by Hirohide Inoue, Itō Castle, Oni-gawara (Demon Roof Tile), Amulet, Exorcism, Lucky Charm, Folk Toy, Traditional Craft, Folk Art, Discontinued Hirohide Inoue learned doll making from his father, Ginkichi, a Hakata doll craftsman. After the war, he was drawn to the charm of unglazed earthen bells and became a specialized producer of them around 1960. In addition to earthen bells related to Fukuoka, such as the local Hakata-obi Dōrin, Niwaka-men Dōrin, and Kiji-guruma Dōrin, Mr. Hirohide created many other earthen bells, including those inspired by the poetry monument of Takuboku Ishikawa, wayside Jizō statues, and Dōsojin (road guardian deities). He was a unique artist who traveled all over Japan and turned things that moved him or left an impression into earthen bells. Engraved on the back: "Itō Castle Oni-gawara". Signed: "Hirohide".
