This is a piece of indigo-dyed cotton boro. It appears to be from the Meiji to Taisho eras. It is likely that it was used for futon covers, etc. This indigo dye was collected in Kaga. The touch of the hand-spun yarn is incredibly gentle, and it feels like it has been used for a long time, but the red of the bengala (iron oxide pigment) is very vivid and beautiful. There are signs of patching, tears, fraying, damage, and stains, but the clear indigo makes it a refreshing piece.
