Chujo Gama, Ryukyu-yaki, is a kiln that produces "Yachimun," traditional Okinawan pottery. Shisa are traditional Okinawan guardian deities, believed to ward off evil spirits and disasters. Using the casting method with white clay, the entire piece is finished with a transparent glaze and fired in the Chujo Gama kiln. "Aka-beta" refers to the red painting applied to the body of the finished Shisa, which is then fired again.
