Kagura originally began when ancient people danced to pray for good health and the rejuvenation of the soul. This ritual of pacifying the spirits is said to be the origin of various Shinto performing arts. A mold is made with clay, Japanese paper is carefully layered, and a mixture of gofun (calcium carbonate) is applied, followed by coloring. It has a unique smell.
