Charlie Haden / Liberation Music Orchestra A masterpiece of 60s jazz, a deeply moving work created by the genius Charlie Haden with Carla Bley, Mike Mantler, Don Cherry, and others, centered on the Spanish Civil War. This is Charlie Haden's memorable debut and also the debut of the Liberation Music Orchestra. It's one of the best albums among the band's many releases. The band released albums with an anti-establishment concept, and this work was an anti-album against the Vietnam War, in which the United States was increasingly involved. Apparently, the band was targeted by the authorities at the time, and their activities were restricted. It incorporates a wide range of musicality that is difficult to simply call "jazz," and the ensemble feels more entrusted to individual discretion than rigidly coordinated, creating a free and open atmosphere, and becoming a style of jazz ensemble. This album won the Swing Journal Jazz Disc Award in 1969. As if to sum up the chaotic 1960s free jazz, it was recorded by bringing together musicians who represented the era, creating a grand musical lyric poem.
