Green ceramic incense burner, featuring an auspicious crane design. Ru ware celadon is a rare celadon fired for the imperial court. Its characteristic color is a pale, slightly grayish aquamarine, like the blue sky seen through a break in the clouds after rain, hence the saying "After the rain, the sky is clear." The glaze was mixed with agate powder, a type of gemstone. The crack-like patterns seen in the image are called "ice crack patterns," and are unique to Ru ware celadon. The foot (the base of the vessel) is unglazed, and is characterized by the marks of small support nails (支釘).
