Set of individual plates (meimeizara) with brocade painting and gold accents by Shoho Kiln of Kutani ware. These plates feature the characteristic "overglaze painting" of Kutani ware, a traditional craft of Ishikawa Prefecture. Vibrant paints known as "Kutani Gosai" – navy blue, red, purple, green, and yellow – are thickly applied. They are characterized by gorgeous, flamboyant floral patterns and gold accents on the rims. The purchase date is unknown (they are quite old) and were inherited from my grandparents' home. Diameter is approximately 13 centimeters.
