This is a small plate I purchased at an antique market. I like the image of the lion playing with a ball. It's an "印判手" (impressed pattern) piece. The lion and the floral pattern on the rim are red. The leaves next to the lion are black. The leaves, in the context of the lion, are probably peony leaves. If so, the floral pattern on the rim is likely a stylized peony as well. Enjoying antiques also involves solving these kinds of mysteries, which is part of the fun. The rim is colored with a thin underglaze. The leaves in the center are green, and the ball is red and blue. The lion's fur is orange. There are gold and blue accents. It's colorful. There are chips and "とりあし" (footing issues). The chips are old, and the edges are rounded, so there's no risk of injury. The footing issues don't reach the surface, so there's no problem with using it. You could do gold repair ("金継ぎ"), or leave it as is. Size: Width 13 cm
