Antique 19th-century Venetian lace from Burano Island, Italy. A beautiful, handmade, needlework round doily, slightly large at over 29cm. Gracefully extending stems and leaves with blooming flowers. Clematis (Christmas rose?), primrose, lilies/iris (orchids?)... A beautiful display of flowers blooming fresh in the fields, reminiscent of Japanese flowers, embroidered boldly and delicately across the entire surface in an artistic composition, with spaces connected by bridges. Beautiful from any angle, a rare piece like a painting or art. The petals and leaves feature openwork needlework, creating a sense of coolness and shadow. There also appear to be small berries? Buds? Or perhaps small leaves. The bridge cords connecting the motifs have adorable picot lace with small, protruding loops ➰. The color is off-white, giving a clean and soft impression. The thread is slightly thicker than medium-fine, with thickness, and a refreshing, airy feel, yet also soft and smooth. The overseas name is Point de Venise, also known as Venetian lace. Using skillful needles, the work is carefully woven into intricate patterns, like a fisherman's net, while twisting strong natural linen thread. It is characterized by its durability, as it is tightly hand-woven with strong linen thread. The following measurements are amateur measurements, so please forgive any errors m(__)m Diameter: Approximately 29.3-27.3cm Approximately 26g It has a natural texture without the sheen of modern lace thread. It has been home-cleaned and is in a clean condition. A few small, short, pale khaki-brown threads can be seen, but I feel they are hardly noticeable. There are a few places where it seems that the edges and bridges have been reinforced where they were starting to unravel. It can be used under antique bisque dolls, small objects, or vases. Also under sugar & creamer sets. Besides tables, chests, and cabinets, it has a presence, so it would also be lovely in an entryway or alcove, or framed. Modern handmade items are too expensive, and the antique ones were easier to purchase. This is the last one I have. I hope those who like it/are looking for it will be able to use it beautifully ☘ Search: Needlework, needlepoint, Whitework, white thread embroidery, Venice, Venetian, Burano
