Yoshio Hayakawa (1917-2009) was a graphic designer born in Noda, Kita-ku, Osaka (present-day Fukushima-ku). After working in the decoration department of Osaka Mitsukoshi and the Osaka City Culture Division, he joined the advertising department of Kintetsu Department Store after the war. After becoming independent in Osaka, he opened a Tokyo office and completely moved his base of operations to Tokyo. Since then, despite achieving far more success in Tokyo than in Osaka, he is still spoken of as one of the designers who best embodies the characteristics of Osaka. The Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka, houses many of his representative works, including posters for the Caron Dressmaking Institute and the Shusai-kai of Kintetsu Department Store.
