As shown in images 6 and 7, a magnet sticks to it, so I believe it is made of iron or tinplate. The origin is unknown. It has been used frequently, and there are scratches, stains, and rust commensurate with its age. Gold color is visible on one side, so I believe it was originally gold-plated.
