This is a genuine hard case for a bass trombone made by Holton. If the dimensions are right, it seems like it could fit other brands of instruments (a CONN bass trombone fit inside). It's built tough and is a bit large for carrying around, but it's excellent for storage. The bottom of the case opens as a lid, and you can store small items there (see photo 8). There are some stains and scratches from use and age, and it has a somewhat old-fashioned feel, but there is no damage, and it is fully functional.
