They are crafted using the traditional "kake-wake" technique (a glazing technique). The teacups themselves are a gentle ivory color, with color applied only to the inside. The colored glaze uses the Seto-yaki standard materials "vermilion and lapis lazuli" which are ceramics. Microwave, oven, and dishwasher safe. The gentle curve towards the bottom makes them easy to hold, making them safe for women and children. It is said that teacups were shaped this way so that you can feel the temperature with your palm and experience the texture of the pottery.
