The Kuroshio's influence on Japan, a maritime nation, is significant, affecting climate, fisheries, culture, and more. In recent years, as research on the Kuroshio has progressed, its course and scale, as well as its impact on ecosystems and its potential role in fisheries resources, are becoming clearer. Therefore, the Obayashi Corporation project team, under the supervision of Professor Emeritus Toshiro Kuroki of Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, has challenged the concept of a "Kuroshio Ocean Ranch" that actively utilizes the various possibilities of the Kuroshio. This is the first such endeavor by a construction company, demonstrating the future of fisheries and simultaneously representing a technological challenge for large-scale marine structures.
