U.S. Military Surplus Plastic whistle from the 1940s, World War II era. Type included in survival kits or issued to enlisted personnel. Brass whistles issued to commanding officers are listed separately. 1943 Army delivery. Stamped U.S. ARMY 1943, likely not original but probably with the lanyard attached at the time. The cork ball is still functional, and the whistle still works. Considering its age, there is no significant damage, and the condition is much better than that of later-made whistles in typical used condition. Moreover, the 1943 stamp appears to be the oldest model with a year indicated. As far as I have researched, a 1942 stamp does not exist, and before 1943, only ARMY or USN stamped types were available.
